Gel manicures have become the new service for those seeking long-lasting and durable nail polish. Whether you’re a new client who is doing research, or a seasoned client who treats themselves to a little pampering every two weeks, understanding the details of a gel manicure can enhance your overall experience. We bet you’re wondering, what exactly is a gel manicure? How is it different from regular polish? What are the perks of a gel manicure? Uncover these answers as we explain the details of a gel manicure!
The Basics of a Gel Manicure
A gel manicure is a type of nail service that uses gel-based nail polish to create a durable and chip-resistant finish. If you’re someone who doesn’t have enough patience for your regular nail polish to dry, gel would be an ideal option for you! Gel nail polish is cured using a UV or LED lamp, which hardens and sets the polish. This curing process results in a longer-lasting and more resilient manicure compared to regular polish.
The Gel Manicure Process
- Preparation
Before the gel polish application begins, our nail technicians will prepare your nails by shaping, buffing, and doing cuticle work. This step is a crucial part to ensure a smooth and clean canvas for the gel polish.
- Base Coat
The next step of a gel manicure involves applying a base coat of gel polish. This layer helps adhere the gel polish to the natural nail and provides a foundation for the color of your choosing and the top coat.
- Color Application
Once the base coat is applied, your chosen gel nail polish color is brushed onto the nails. The color application is repeated for two or three layers, depending on the desired intensity of color. At PURE NAILS, we use non-toxic, vegan and cruelty free gel nail polishes and have an array of approximately 200 colors to choose from. If you love multiple colors and can’t decide on just one, try different colors on each nail!
- Curing
After each layer of gel polish is applied, the nails are cured under a UV or LED lamp. The curing process typically takes around 30-60 seconds per layer. The reason the curing lamp is a necessity for gel polish is because it causes the photoinitiators in the gel polish to activate, causing it to harden and bond to the nail.
- Top Coat
Once the opacity of the color is to your liking, a final layer of gel top coat is applied to seal and protect the manicure. Top coats come in a variety of finishes such as shiny or matte. The top coat of your choosing further enhances the durability of the gel manicure. After the top coat is applied, the nails undergo a final round of curing.
- Hand Scrub and Massage
At the end of your service, when your gorgeous nails are finished, a hand scrub will be given to you which will result in smooth, silky skin. Your technician will then use our very own PURE NAILS lotion and massage it in your skin to top off the gel manicure!
Perks of Gel Manicures
- Longevity
Gel manicures are popular for their longevity. Traditional nail polish may chip within a few days if prep and application are not completed properly. Gel polish can last up to two weeks or more without losing its luster if you are taking care of your nails.
- Quick Drying
The curing process under a UV or LED lamp means that gel nails are instantly dry once the manicure is complete. This makes an amazing option if you are someone who is always on the go and doesn’t want to take the risk of smudging or denting your freshly painted nails.
- Versatility
Gel polish comes in a wide range of colors and finishes, providing endless possibilities for creative nail designs. Gel nail polish is ideal for nail art because it allows the technician to cure each detail of the design without the risk of smudging it. Remember to book your desired amount of nail art for your next appointment at PURE NAILS!
- Chip Resistance
The hardened nature and the instant drying ability of gel polish makes it highly resistant to chipping, making it an ideal choice for those with an active lifestyle.
In the world of nail care and beauty, gel manicures are becoming a popular choice for those seeking a durable and polished look. The overall appeal of gel manicures lies in their ability to provide a salon-quality finish that withstands the test of time.
